About Narcan
The safest path is abstinence. Full stop. However, given the prevalence of prescription drug abuse and Fentanyl poisoning, it is critical that community members (YOU!) have access to and understand Narcan.
What is Narcan/Naloxone?
Narcan/Naloxone is a nasal spray that’s an opioid antagonist, meaning it binds to opioid receptors to block the effects of opioids in one’s system. For this reason, it can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose in minutes.
When to use Narcan
If someone has used and is experiencing any of the following systems, use Narcan and call 911.
Loss of consciousness
Slow, weak, or no breathing
Discolored or cold skin (specifically lips and nails)
Limp Body
Choking or gurgling sounds
Small, constricted “pinpoint pupils”
Where to purchase Narcan
Narcan is available for anyone to purchase at any pharmacy by law. If you or someone you know takes opioids or prescription opioids, having a Narcan rescue kit can make all the difference.
